Granite is a very common material used for staircases. Owing to its strength, granite is a durable option for steps. Staircases act as a transition between two different spaces. They act as a transition between two types of spaces. Today, we will look at 10 best granites for staircases that will transform your staircase completely. These granites have been specifically chosen to add flair to a boring staircase.

I have always loved granite as a surfacing stone, especially because of its durability. Since a lot of my projects have been in the commercial sector, I have been predisposed to a lot of colours of granite throughout my career. However, for this recent farmhouse project in the outskirts of Pune, I wanted to add glamour to the staircase. There began my journey to discover the best colours of granite found in India, specifically in Pune.

For this list we will not be including the ordinary black, grey and white granites but some very new, trendy and elegant granite colors.

8. India Marquina Black Granite

Indian Marquina black granite has wavy figures that if taken advantage of look stunning on staircases. With some finesse, you can create a single continuous-wave pattern throughout the staircase, adding flow and movement to a rather static design. Marquino Black also has some excellent properties for staircases. High heat, chemical and stain resistant with high hardness and mechanical strength.

7. Striated Black Granite

This granite has a very unusual finish to it. It feels like a satin cloth. It has a mellow grey base which is intermittently broken by straight white lines. These lines also, ever so slightly, dip into the surface creating an eminently profound sensation. Striated Black Granite is not as mechanically strong as other granites in this list but its satin-like touch and appearance more than makes up for it.

3. Alaskan Gold Granite

This granite has a dynamic gold appearance. The patterns of gold, black and white in this granite look almost extra-terrestrial.

Alaskan Granites make nature look like an abstract artist. Alaskan granites can be found in several colours, but none are as appealing as this one. Alaskan Granites, like Italian Marble, are reinforced with resin and hence, don’t have the hardness or the strength comparable to granite. Not suitable for applications such as door and window frames. They can be used for flooring and staircases but since they are not firm and help together by resin, excessive handling precautions are required.

Alaskan white granite is famous for its wonderful pattern, but a major drawback of Alaskan granites is that they are not firm and have to be reinforced with resin. Indian Aster white granite is the only white granite which is firm despite having such beautiful designs making it the best of both worlds. This granite is much more chemical and stain-resistant when compared to other white granites. Even though it is white, it is relatively non-porous. However, we still advise you to seal it. It is also much harder. This granite is our first recommendations if you want to use white granite.
