Granite is a very common material used for staircases. Owing to its strength, granite is a durable option for steps. Staircases act as a transition between two different spaces. They act as a transition between two types of spaces. Today, we will look at 10 best granites for staircases that will transform your staircase completely. These granites have been specifically chosen to add flair to a boring staircase.
I have always loved granite as a surfacing stone, especially because of its durability. Since a lot of my projects have been in the commercial sector, I have been predisposed to a lot of colours of granite throughout my career. However, for this recent farmhouse project in the outskirts of Pune, I wanted to add glamour to the staircase. There began my journey to discover the best colours of granite found in India, specifically in Pune.
For this list we will not be including the ordinary black, grey and white granites but some very new, trendy and elegant granite colors.
I found out about petrosstone via their Instagram and got it in touch with them.
For this article, I will stick to Indian granites. Though I have used imported granites for several projects, these options will be most relevant to a majority of Indian architects and designers having access to the rich natural beauty of Indian Granite.
So lets get to it…..

10. River White Granite
This granite has that rich white colour with a tinge of purple. Purple has always been a colour associated with luxury, and this granite holds that reputation high. It adds an element of grandeur to the space. If the staircase design pertains to such a style, River white granite is a perfect choice of granite. River white granite creates a bright, spacious atmosphere, also a perfect option for staircases that are a little cramped. Hence, this granite is a gorgeous stone for almost every type of steps..
Heat resistant but not stain resistant. We advise you to use a protective coating to prevent this granite from catching stains.

9. Flash Blue Granite
If you are looking for granite for outdoor staircases, this is the perfect choice for you. This granite is exceptionally hard and attractive at the same time. It has wonderful sub-surface crystals that glisten when light rays hit at particular angles. It is impossible to pass-by a slab of this granite without noticing this phenomenon.
Hard and stain resistant. Not very common, but with a little help from Petrosstone you will find it.

8. India Marquina Black Granite
Indian Marquina black granite has wavy figures that if taken advantage of look stunning on staircases. With some finesse, you can create a single continuous-wave pattern throughout the staircase, adding flow and movement to a rather static design. Marquino Black also has some excellent properties for staircases. High heat, chemical and stain resistant with high hardness and mechanical strength.

7. Striated Black Granite
This granite has a very unusual finish to it. It feels like a satin cloth. It has a mellow grey base which is intermittently broken by straight white lines. These lines also, ever so slightly, dip into the surface creating an eminently profound sensation. Striated Black Granite is not as mechanically strong as other granites in this list but its satin-like touch and appearance more than makes up for it.

6. Moon White Granite
Being a natural product, it’s difficult to find very particular colours in Granite. Moon white granite is an exception. If you want to make a statement with the colour of your staircase without appearing too bizarre, this is the granite for you. Besides the pistachio-coloured base, it also has purple crystals that collude to a defining colour scheme.

5. Matrix Black
The other granites on this list have been more of an artistic choice, this one is more on the simple side. From a distance, it might appear like a very simple black granite. But when you step on the staircase, the matrix texture has a very distinctive touch.
Since this granite has been leathered, it has a grippy surface without being rough. Thus, it feels fantastic to walk on.
This granite can also be used for exteriors as it is strong and even stain resistant. If it rains a lot in your region, the grippy feature might especially be very useful.

4. Vizag Blue Granite
Blue is difficult to find in nature. So, it was shocking for me to find a granite that was utterly blue. It has long striations that add to the aesthetic value. Patterns in Vizag Blue Granite can add flow to the staircase. Hard and resistant to stains. Not very excessive when you consider the additional surface treatment it has. It might be difficult to find a dealer, but we can help you out here.

3. Alaskan Gold Granite
This granite has a dynamic gold appearance. The patterns of gold, black and white in this granite look almost extra-terrestrial.
Alaskan Granites make nature look like an abstract artist. Alaskan granites can be found in several colours, but none are as appealing as this one. Alaskan Granites, like Italian Marble, are reinforced with resin and hence, don’t have the hardness or the strength comparable to granite. Not suitable for applications such as door and window frames. They can be used for flooring and staircases but since they are not firm and help together by resin, excessive handling precautions are required.

2. Aster White Granite
Alaskan white granite is famous for its wonderful pattern, but a major drawback of Alaskan granites is that they are not firm and have to be reinforced with resin. Indian Aster white granite is the only white granite which is firm despite having such beautiful designs making it the best of both worlds. Therefore, this granite has earned the number two spot on our list.
This granite is much more chemical and stain-resistant when compared to other white granites. Even though it is white, it is relatively non-porous. However, we still advise you to seal it. It is also much harder. This granite is our first recommendations if you want to use white granite.

1. Ocean Blue Granite
To be honest, a polished slab of this granite is not so appealing, but when it undergoes a lapatro surface treatment, it uncovers the genuine beauty of this granite. The undulations on the surface of the granite create eye-catching reflections. This is not just an aesthetic transformation. The lapatro finish makes the surface of this granite easier to grip, serving as an anti-skid measure. Therefore, this granite wins the award for the best granite for the staircase.
